TWO HOURS AT HOPEVILLE
Threw the nucanoe in the van and me and the boy were off for some fun. Launched about 4pm and started scouting for fish. I spent the first 20 min fishing the out passage without a nibble, paddled to the opposite shore and started working the opposite bank west tward the dam. Things were not going so well, as i went the first hour with not even a nibble. I kept at it, believing the JIG would work its magic, and finally i hooked into a fish. I fought it to the boat, out of the weeds and the hook was not even set past the barb, luck was on my side and the first fish of the day was a 17 incher i never felt take the bait. i kept the pressure on and got it in the boat. Note to self, give it the gusto when hook setting in the weeds. Float down the same weed bed on the point another 10 feet or so and continue to fan cast all the decent looking spots. Tap Tap Tap. Good sign so i give it all i got, and the war begins. This fish is doing what it wants with me and the boat and i am along for the ride. two min in its in open water and heading deep. I pull up to turn the head, and snap, the pole is done. My heart instantly sank. I gave the reel a few turns to see if there was any weight left and it was still on there. I was now battling a fish with 2 feet of pole missing. It was tired or something by that point because it gave me a little more fun but came in the boat just nice...
